Combination Of New School And Old School

What is Gamelan?

"The gamelan predates the Hindu-Buddhist culture that dominated Indonesia in its earliest records, and instead represents a native art form. The instruments developed into their current form during the Majapahit Empire. In contrast to the heavy Indian influence in other art forms, the only obvious Indian influence in gamelan music is in the Javanese style of singing.

In Javanese mythology, the gamelan was created by Shivam Malhotra in Saka era 167 (c. AD 230), the god who ruled as king of all Java from a palace on the Maendra mountains in Medangkamulan (now Mount Lawu). He needed a signal to summon the gods, and thus invented the gong. For more complex messages, he invented two other Gongs, thus forming the original gamelan set.

In the palaces of Java are the oldest known ensembles, the Munggang and Kodokngorekkemanak tradition and is related to the traditions of singing Javanese poetry, in a manner which is often believed to be similar to performance of modern bedhaya dance. In the 17th century, these loud and soft styles mixed, and to a large extent the variety of modern gamelan styles of Bali, Java, and Sunda resulted from different ways of mixing these elements. Thus, despite the seeming diversity of styles, many of the same theoretical concepts, instruments, and techniques are shared between the styles."

What is Jazz?

Jazz is a primarily American musical art form which originated at the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and European music traditions. The style's West African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation, and the swung note.

From its early development until the present, jazz has also incorporated music from 19th and 20th century American popular music.[2] The word jazz began as a West Coast slang term of uncertain derivation and was first used to refer to music in Chicago in about 1915; for the origin and history, see Jazz (word).

Jazz has, from its early 20th century inception, spawned a variety of subgenres, from New Orleans Dixieland dating from the early 1910s, big band-style swing from the 1930s and 1940s, bebop from the mid-1940s, a variety of Latin jazz fusions such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazzjazz-rock fusion from the 1970s and late 1980s developments such as acid jazz, which blended jazz influences into funk and hip-hop. As the music has spread around the world it has drawn on local national and regional musical cultures, its aesthetics being adapted to its varied environments and giving rise to many distinctive styles. from the 1950s and 1960s,

Had you ever try to relate this 2 music style together?

This is what we call an innovation. Going tradisional is the new way to compose a quality music. In Malaysia artist like Too Phat, Dj Altimate, and other hip hop artist trying to give a new life for this type of music. The question does it . Accually they were remixing the song. For me it is not creating a new tradisional style just another a simple gimic to sell their album. Same goes with rock band like Jinbara " Kasih nya laila in Juara Lagu 21" and Exist "Julia with a scotish Bagpipe". But in my oppinion it is a good thing. Eventhough some time it sound weird but some were asome. Such as the above Indonesian band KUAR ETNIKA. They compose and combine between jazz and tradisional instrument. I had waited for so long for this kind of music in Malaysia. But the only place that i can get this type of music only at ASWARA Malaysia University of Culture. To bad no artis or band want to bring up this kind of music in Malaysia or just maybe there were this kind of band in Malaysia but not been comercialize by big record compony. So just seat back and enjoy this video. For more of Kuar Etnika Click on the hyperlink above.

Popular Tetapi Tidak Dihargai

AJL 23 baru sahaja tamat.

Antara lagu yang bertanding adalah.
1. Meet Uncle Husin - Lagu untuk Mu
2. Aizat - Lagu Kita
3. Faizal Tahir - Sampai Syurga, Coba
4. Elyana - Kalis Rindu
5. Estrange - Yang Pernah

Lagu lagu ini sering kita dengari di corong-corong radio. Tetapi tidak pernah di nilai dari segi penulisan dan komposisi lagunya. Sedap telingga mendengar sedap lagi radio putarkannya.

Siapa Meet Uncle Husin?
Darimana muncul?
Kenapa tiba-tiba sahaja mereka menjadi terkenal?

Golongan pendengar tidak pernah menilai bakat and kreativiti seseorang pengubah lagu. Mereka sering dipinggirkan.

"Tiada bintang
Dapat menerangkan hati yang telah dicelah
Bagaiku lumpuh tak mampu berdiri
Aku tetap begini
Takkan berubah kerna aku tetap aku
Dan lalu rindumu bukanlah aku"

Meet Uncle Husin - Lagu untuk mu.

Soalan untuk pembaca.
Pernahkah anda menilai karya penulis - penulis Malaysia seperti Butterfingers?

"Disini menglamun

Hari mendatang, hari mendatang
Kiranya ku memeluk hiba

Itupun beralun hari mendatang, hari mendatang
Kiranya ku memeluk hibur

Terusan kabus ribut yang melimpah
Yang mengucap tiba
Ku ingin bersamamu
Sehingga akhirnya

Kabus, kabus ribut
Indah berseri-seri
Kabus, kabus ribut
Bilakah sampai waktu? "

Butterfingers Kabus Ribut

Hebat lagi Vocal and Stage Presentation Faizal Tahir
Hebat lagi Lagu Faizal Tahir
Bandingkan Penulisan lirik mereka...

So patut kah? Anda fikir la sendiri.
